Daemon X Machina

Nintendo has just announced at E3 2018, a new customizable mecha game by Marvelous Entertainment coming to the Switch. But here's the kicker:
It's produced by Kenichiro Tsukuda, who produced Armored Core 2 through Nexus, or as we old fogeys know them, "The best ones". Also on board is classic AC designer Shoji Kawamori. So yeah, it's not an AC game, but it definitely has its DNA.

We may not have gotten a trailer for Armored Core 6 this year, but dare I say, we just may have gotten something even better. Considering how many of us here at The Garage haven't taken too well to many of the new AC games, this could be the game we've been waiting for.

They showed off a little bit of early gameplay as well. So we've got a customizable pilot, and a hangar bay that displays weapons in your inventory (Looking at 3:25 you can see what it almost certainly this games KARASAWA). You can pick up weapons and parts from fallen enemies, as well as environmental items like cars and structural supports to use as improvised weapons. I believe you can keep enemy weapons and parts, but I doubt you'll be able to hang on to a broken I-beam after the mission. Admittedly some of the animations look a little unpolished, but hopefully they're still working on that.

okay this looks amazing,but is it a Switch only game? I hope not as I have not really been in a rush to get one. This might change that though lol

Nintendo is helping publish the game, so yeah it is exclusive to the Switch, to the disappointment of many I'm sure. Happy and I don't have one just yet, but with the upcoming releases of this, Bayonetta 3, Metroid Prime 4, Smash Ultimate, and My Friend Pedro, we're gonna pick one up eventually. That's kind of the nice thing about Switch, while it may lack the sheer power the PS4/XBOne have, it helps keep the price down so it's pretty easy to justify picking one up for just a handful of games.


And I've got a little more information I've been holding on to for the past week because I didn't really want to post 3 times in a row, but we have a little more info on the setting and such, and an amusing video someone made about his thoughts on the trailer. (Although I could have sworn I posted some of these images previously. Maybe I'm just getting old.)

As well as another article from Polygon.com that got some insight straight from producer Kenichiro Tsukuda. Of which my favorite piece of info is this:

Oh yeah,Metroid Prime 4. Two reasons for me to get a Switch. I am a shameless Metroid fanboy. I have been trying to get the Dolphin emulator to link with VBA-M all afternoon,to get the Fusion suit in Prime 1. Such a pain,can't figure it out. Anyways,if I can find a nice deal on a Switch I will surely get one,once these are out. Mario Oddesy and BotW are also enticing.

New trailer showing some new footage. Not seeing the variety of leg types AC is known for, but it's early yet.




EDIT:
Also took a look at some new gameplay. Multiplayer hangars, reverse-engineering boss weapons, and H+ is a freakin' gameplay mechanic now.

Not something super new, but found a video with some decent unedited gameplay. Digging the music, but I'm also taking a look at the games quick boost. QB ended up hurting the gameplay in the last few AC games, IMO, so I'm hoping it'll act a little different in this game, leaving some dodging ability up to skill rather than just mashing the "dodge everything" button. So far it looks like there might be different levels, like rapid but small boosts, or a large QB with a longer recovery time. That would be nice if that's the case, but we'll see.

For anyone that currently owns a Switch, there is a demo out today. Reportedly only for a limited time though, so better get on it.

My impression of the demo, it was fun. It's modernized, as I don't like the downgrade with infinite flight, acquiring ammunition if you carelessly run out, or HP recovery, however. My advice for the Colossal AI, you can best it in a couple minutes if you go back in previous order missions and get stronger weapons, because I had the misfortune of rushing through missions barely getting parts and weapons, which cause me to spend 12 minutes on besting the Boss. You would have to hit it in certain spots for critical damage. At first, I didn't know what to do.

Anyway, enjoy the demo for the rest of you.

I don't feel like those are downgrades and are relatively well balanced additions. It really is kind of a nice blend between ACVD and AC4A with a hint of classic. The giant AI is pretty easy once you get a handle on maneuvering and attacking it's weak spot for massive damage. I've seen a lot of complaints about difficulty but so far I've ran through every mission with almost every variety of parts that it offers and I've found super lightweight dual blade and machine gun/rifle to be my favorite set up. AC4A gave us infinite energy, and ammunition trucks and health recovery have been here since ~AC2 ish. Also human plus or OP-I have always been a thing except for a handful of PS2 titles. I'm super hyped for this to hit a full release though.

also.

DIAGONAL FLIGHT (kind of), there is a lot of mobility given and I am hoping that we will see the return of caterpillar and quad legs as well, each with their own unique features. One of my biggest issues with AC4/4A was that it felt casualized and that for the most part, with quick boosting, leg type didn't matter so much anymore for most things. This was kind of improved in VD but the rock paper scissor damage aspect really killed them game for me once I got S/A tier brackets for PVP. I think re arming and restoring AP is a good addition and will make the game slightly more accessible to new players (which, honestly mecha games like this are NEVER new player friendly) but as it is it feels great and intuitive after playing AC since like 1998
